Floral Utility

Casual little floral dresses are key for easy breezy summer style.  Although the weather today is a bit dull and grey, it’s still fairly warm. So this ditsy floral lace number is one of those easy throw on and go kind of dresses, plus it feels great to wear.  I picked it up from Oasis and am very happy with it.

Dave and I spent most of the day chilling out,  tidying the flat and  watching some telly.  Later we had some errands to run, so I popped on my Vans old skool classics,  but I think this dress looks equally good with ankle boots. To keep the look dressed down I added my khaki Superdry jacket, this was the perfect Sunday run around outfit.

Don’t Block The

Every now and then, Dave and I produce a set of images that I’m really proud of. It’s when the location and outfit work together in perfect harmony. This shoot was just that, it’s serendipity – granted it’s not a particularly special outfit, in fact, it’s what I wore when we went for burgers on Friday night, but it felt comfy as hell and I felt like a badass wearing it.
As you know, I like to keep it real on my blog and wear my clothes in many environs. Like most people, I can’t afford to buy new clothing all the time and I guess I like to stick to my vintage roots by recycling and reinventing new ways to wear lots of outfits.

I cannot wear what I want to work. Its tricky working for a high street store, where we are required to wear the brand at work. I like to dress ‘my way’ and it’s slowly pushing out all my treasured vintage gems (and my style evolution) but I will go into that in another post very soon.

Back to this look and fab location; we shot an outfit on Saturday, which I’ve been thinking up for over a week, but on the day, it just didn’t turn out on paper how I envisioned. I guess it didn’t help that I was pulling funny faces in every snap. Truth is, some days I just can’t pose and the vibe doesn’t work or at other times, the outfit just hasn’t captured well on camera, funny how that happens!? Maybe I’ll re shoot Saturday’s look or maybe I’ll just post it and see what you think as I might just be giving myself a hard time being over tough on myself?

How’s Instagram for you? Lately I’ve been getting a bit down with the fluctuations of blogging and Instagram, well, mainly with Instagram. I love my core followers, but sometimes wonder what’s going on… I can gain 20+ followers and lose 15+ daily, it’s so confusing and frustrating. I know it’s about quality followers over fake followers and I shouldn’t care about numbers, but I do and so do the PR companies that I work with, they are all about the numbers, not necessarily the content.
What are your thoughts on all of this? I miss the days when Instagram was fun and not a competitive reflection of my blogging abilities. It just feels like everyone has moved away from reading blogs and they are just on Instagram now. For me, I like to connect with people.

For now I’m just pleased with how dope and badass bitchin’ I look in this post and won’t give a crap about stats and follower counts!

Vintage Camouflage

I’m currently sat On our balcony, busy writing up my stateside adventures. You will be reading all about it soon enough; what I have been up to and of course the inspiration for holiday wear during my sunshine break. I’ve been very happy with my wardrobe choices, they worked well for me on my two week sightseeing and relaxing combo, here in Florida.

My trip is drawing to an end, it’s sadly our last full day here in Florida. I checked in on my blog to add some snaps and came across this look that is waiting to be shared. I think of this as a cute outfit, good for wearing on a dull day. I thought I would share this look with you now, as I will be travelling for the next two days, then getting myself straight and shaking off the dreaded jet lag for a couple of days – do you have any suggestion for dealing with jet lag?

In the meantime, here’s a little post for you.

The jacket was a real find, it’s one of a few treasures I picked up on a trip to Paris last year. Don’t you love shopping for clothes abroad- a momento of a happy holiday? Now in truth, I already own a much loved plain khaki army jacket (vintage of course), but I have yearned for one with a camouflage print for the longest time!….you do know that camoflague is one of my favourite prints, don’t you?! I had spent just under an hour searching through the racks of clothes in vintage boutiques, so I was delighted to find the perfect camo jacket! So, when I laid my eyes on this little number – and at the right price, well, I knew it was coming home with me and I still get a rush of pleasure every time I wear it.

This sweet dungaree dress and blouse combo add just the right amount of feminine detail to work the look. It’s been a regular wardrobe ‘go to’ during the cooler months….and now, for the love of pure sass – and sassiness alone – these fake-snake cut out boots are just the business. I was gifted them by the lovely team at ASOS for the Paris trip and wore them to dinner and on evenings out, but I never managed to get the evening lighting correct to create a decent snap. I’ve worn them plenty since, but they should be named Cinderella, because until now they haven’t made it into the blog, funny that? I must make more effort to show them off on here over the summer. I think paired with a dress- either a floaty white one or a black midi would be cute.

Vintage Paris

No trip to Paris is complete with though visiting the infamous Eiffle tower and what better location for our outfit pictures, than the foot of the tower. The grounds are so pretty and with that view it’s not hard to see why people flock here to relax in the sunshine.

For my look I wanted to wear my new vintage treasures I’d picked up the day before from Episode Vintage and be comfy for a day of sight seeing. Starting with my Superdry button down skirt and Superdry peasant blouse, then adding my new camouflage jacket into the mix, along with my trusty bandana tied in a chocker style around my neck to add even more clashing prints I teamed my fedora with contrast Aztec trim. For ultimate comfort factor I worn my new Adidas Samba trainers which I also picked up at Episode Vintage, in such good condition and great value – they truly are the find of the year!

Let the sunshine in

IMG_0622 IMG_0635IMG_0646Howdy, how ya’ll doing? I’ve been rushed off my feet this last week, with an impromptu day trip to Portsmouth, friends stays and busy evening – working on fun projects with my girl Lolo – I haven’t had time to write posts, but I shall up my a game and get back on it, I promise 🙂

Before we headed off on our impromptu day trip Dave and I managed to snap some quick outfit photographs. It was glorious sunshine in London which meant this lightweight jacket was perfect (not so great at 5pm on a rainy, windy beach in Portsmouth but we can gloss over that). This jacket is a trusty favourite of mine, I picked it up from an army surplus store in Canterbury years ago. I teamed it with my denim pinafore from New Look and a striped tee. I wanted a casual and comfortable outfit for the day. I didn’t get any snaps from our day trip as the majority of it was for Dave to photograph a car and when the fun began (by fun, I mean the seaside, fish and chips and fairground) it was tipping it down and no way was I reaching for the camera. I was focusing on keeping dry and running with Coco along the beach!

Summer Daze…

amy_blog_079amy_blog_090 There is something about a simple white dress with a light weight jacket and tan accessories that scream summer – I think summer time and tan accessories go hand in hand in my book!
You’d think August is the height of summer and we’d be having lovely warm weather, but in fact it’s been the opposite and lots of rain. Just as I thought summer had disappeared on us we’re having a delightfully warm weekend. In honor of the sunshine we headed to the common for our Sunday walk with Coco. amy_blog_096amy_blog_082 Is it just me or does my hair look really long in these snaps? I must remember to do it in a half up pony more often 😉

amy_blog_008amy_blog_007It’s been a long week and it’s still not over, I’ve done a nightshift then onto a whole week of 6 am starts, which is pretty painful let alone with the added nightshift of doom! These photos were taken after said nightshift and a day of trying to sleep but not really getting any… To try make myself feel human again, I got dolled up. The little half up bun has became my favorite go to hair style, well when I’m not wearing a hat ;-). The dress is from Topshop’s Reclaimed collection, which uses old fabrics from past collections and up-cycles them into new styles – I guess it’s the closet to recycling Topshop will ever get!

Vintage Everythang!

vintage_dress1vintage_dress5We’re heading to Dave’s parents for the weekend, I’m super excited to see everyone and hopefully spend some time at the beach and this amazing retro warehouse we stubbled upon last visit. Fingers crossed we’ll get some photos of the jam-packed full of vintage warehouse! Now about this outfit, it’s just a little outfit I wore the other day. We took these photos on an evening walk but missed the good light as we were helping a guy get his dog back on the lead. Such a naughty little Bug (Beagle Pug cross), his owner had been chasing him around the common for over and hour and a half! He just wouldn’t come back! We lent a hand and with the help of some other dog walkers we got the naught little rascal back… so when it was time for photos the best light had gone.

It seams I’ve caught the jeans bug! Long time followers will know that it’s a rare occasion that jeans or trousers appear on the blog. I have my beloved floral trousers, which I’ve worn a couple of different ways, check them out here and here. Then there’s my skinny Topshop Leigh jeans (which are no more -they died!) but to be honest I never truly loved them, the material was too thin. They did make it onto the blog the most here are three different way’s I styled them, one, two and three… But lets talk about these new bad boys! I originally went in looking for a dark wash of the boyfriend style I’ve recently gotten into wearing but the sizing was off and the smaller size was a better fit than the larger but still didn’t look how I wanted. On a desperate whim I tried these skinny black Jamie jeans and was impressed with the fit and look. Before I knew it I was at the till and they were mine, it’s taken some getting used to as they are ultra skinny and feel a little sprayed on but I do like how I’m held in place in all the right areas. I’m enjoying having the flexibility of  having jeans in my wardrobe, its good to mix it up and push the boundaries of my comfort zone. I’m still in love with my dresses, I’m just enjoying this new found freedom that jeans are giving me… I seem to have waffled on rather a bit but before I go, lets just take a moment to appreciate my beautiful shoes. They are the love child of a boot meets sandal and I love ’em!

Urban Florals…

Although the weather has ruined our plans for a BBQ, we’ve had a good weekend. We went for dinner with Dave’s friends friday night, just after these photographs were taken. Then Saturday was very mixed weather conditions perfect day for hiding inside and visiting the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, but god awful for a BBQ! Instead we spent the afternoon hiding from down pours looking at the amazing photography then the next  frolicking in the court yard of Somerset house. I also managed to squeeze in an eye test today. Boy, my visions gotten worse and I’ve been told I have to wear my glasses more 😦 …but it’s not all bad as I’ve picked some nice new frames. When I collect them I’ll show you what I got!!blog_photos_017blog_photos_046blog_photos_028We found this new location while out walking Coco, I like the disused and urban vibe these garage doors give. I felt it matched my outfit some what… I love layering tops under this dress, its a very modern pinafore! As I never wear anything other than thick chains these days, I naturally added it and then teamed my stud belt and boots to match.blog_photos_039blog_photos_009blog_photos_034blog_photos_029blog_photos_052blog_photos_049What I’m wearing –
