Things I’m Thankful For

I have a lot to be thankful for recently and today I wanted to share a little bit of positivity, especially with all the scary news about coronavirus. Firstly I hope your all well and sending positive vibes to anyone who’s affected. This is also a good chance to catch y’all up on life lately. Here’s what’s new with me at the moment…

  • My EAD work permit & social security number arrived! That means I’m now legal to work in the USA. My resume and portfolio is ready to go and I’ve started applying for jobs. Fingers crossed I land my dream job very soon!
  • Getting creative – back at the beginning of the year I set myself some goals to work towards and pushing my creativity was one of them. Including creating lots of new content for this blog I also wanted to push my drawing and sewing. I’ve recently made a couple new dresses and I am really enjoying the challenge. I’ve been using my old sewing machine from the UK – which is rather slow and laborious as it does not pull enough power through US plugs, we’re looking at getting me a US model later this month and I can not wait!
I’ve made two dresses, one of which you can see here and I’ll be sharing the other next week. I even cut the pattern for my 3rd dress and I’m excited to get sewing it! I might rope Dave into taking some snaps and maybe even a video of the process to show you, if that would be something you’d be interested in seeing?
  • Home update – the living room is very near completion. We picked up this very amazing chair from Ross dress for less and this throw from Benevolence LA and we love it! If you’re not familiar with this brand I suggest checking them out. Not only do they have great style but they do good too, with lots of giving back to charity. This weekend we are picking up some sweet looking shelves we’ve ordered and I can not wait to style them up with our vintage cameras and trinkets. I will of course update y’all with pictures once we have them.
  • Dave was away with work for two weeks – thankfully he’s back now – in that time I watched some good girly feel good TV. I was mooching around looking for something easy to watch and found Katy Keene. It’s mainly about a girl and her best friends living in New York City and struggling to make it in their chosen career fields. After a quick google search it turns out to be a spin-off of Riverdale. Which I’ve not seen so might give that a whirl too. It’s a little cheesy and very practicable but easy watching and it reminds me of the days I was a personal shopper for Topshop and Visual merchandiser creating window displays. I’m five episodes in and its a fun watch. Also on Hulu I watched Dollface, in fact I managed to blast through the series in three days (perks of being unemployed I guess) and pleased to hear they have renewed it for a second season. Dollface is much more my type of program. It’s very funny, its a bit kooky and lots of girl power. If your after a feel good watch I’d recommend it!

Girl Power!

Celebrate you bae! It’s international woman’s day!

Happy international woman’s day to you all! I wanted to share some new art work I’ve created to celebrate women.

I really believe we should empower the ladies in our lives, support each other and work towards equality. A couple years back I write more in-depth about this and you can check that out here.

I have loved seeing my instagram and Pinterest feed full of inspirational images and quotes and pleased for my images to join them!
I’m really pleased with how this years designs came out and the colour pallet I’ve used. I’m obsessed with drawing leopard print so knew theses babes would be wearing leopard! Last year I did these and really like them but my skill level has, well, levelled up since then and its great to see how far I’ve come.

Creating Illustrations

Last week I was spending the day at home working on illustration content which you can see here. I wanted to document some behind the scenes of the drawing process and what equipment I use to create my drawings. It turned into a mini home shoot with my tripod and iPhone as a remote. I am planning to do take outfit photos of this skirt, its the same silhouette as my green one and I just love it! H&M has so many good bits in at the moment.

Dave is away with work for the next two weeks and as I don’t know that many people in LA I’m spending a lot of time at home alone. To avoid going stir-crazy I’ve been filling my time with creating new art, plenty in-coming just a few bits to finish off and I’m also planning some more sewing projects.

To create my drawings I use a Wacom tablet, Apple MacBook with USB-C Hub as my MacBook only has one port. I love having the Wacom as I draw directly on the tablet to the screen using photoshop. Its just like drawing on paper but I no longer have the hassle of scanning the paper copy onto my computer to then photoshop it. Just makes the lines and over all illustration cleaner. I do miss having my a sketch book full of line drawings though. This is just cleaner and streamlined my process so much! I’m thinking up so ideas for new drawings, if you have any ideas of what you’d like to see, let me know in the comments!

Make Up Favourites

I know I shared my daily make up favourites not too long ago but I recently got a couple of new concealers and wanted to share them with you. I got the miniatures to test them out before committing to the full sized ones.

First up is the bye bye under eye from IT cosmetics, a little goes a long way with this product. So far I’m liking it, it is a little thick but covers my dark bags nicely so I’m pleased with it but think I should have got a lighter shade. Back in London I tested it out and brought the same shade that the make-up artist used on me but I’m thinking the slightly lighter one would be better for my skint tone. I also picked ups this Nars concealer, I’m prone to getting spots on my jaw line and this has been helping cover them up. I’m also trialing some more skincare so will report back on how I get on, oh and I’m photographing my skin to document the journey. Fingers crossed it continues to clear up, those recurring pesky jawline spots!

Until my jawline clears up I’m wearing the Nars concealer under my IT cosmetics CC cream. I’m not one for heavy foundation this combination does the trick for me. I like to have full coverage but don’t like having clogged up skin, which easily happens whenever foundation is used. Thats why I love the IT cosmetics CC cream plus it gives me a dewy glow and what’s not to love about that. If you’ve followed for a while you’ll know I’m basic and love a red lip, occasionally ill do a flick of eyeliner, I’m not the best at it so often don’t even bother with eyeshadows but recently I’m really into wearing Bumpy ride Nars blusher as eyeshadow. Its the perfect peachy pink for my lids and I’m loving it. I found the shade was too light for my cheeks, its nice to have another use for it! Torrid is my go too for cheeks. I’d love to be a bronzed girl but it just ain’t my thing, I have pale skin and have learnt to embrace it.
